Search Engine Registration 101
|
INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE REGISTRATION What is an Internet Search Engine? Internet Search Engines index all of the content available on the web (several billion pages) to provide the best possible search experience to users. The major search engines include Yahoo, Google, Open Directory, MSN, Alta Vista, Netscape, Dogpile, HotBot, Lycos, Overture, Inktomi, Ask and LookSmart. Many of these allow free registration, but others charge a fee for registration, and the rules for registration change often. Each search engine has specific rules about registration and must be followed accordingly. Submissions of web sites via auto-submission software will be rejected. The role of a search engine is to "spider" the keyword meta tags and text on each web page, and index the words. When someone enters a keyword "web design" in a search engine search field, a listing of all the web sites that have the words "web design" will appear in the listing. One recent search in the MSN search engine for "web design" showed 62,988,752 entries. That's some competition for web designers! Many web site designers do not include search engine registration when they design the web site, and may sometimes not even add keywords (or meta tags) to each web page. Keywords describe your business and are words that a potential customer would use to find your company using an Internet search engine. For example: A web designer might use "web design" as a keyword phrase in the code on the web page. e-Media Services provides Internet search engine registration, that allow free submissions, with every web site designed.
